Intaglio is one of Judith Hall's favorite mediums. Original prints pulled from her copper plates capture the most intricate feathering within each bird or the delicate lines required in an animal's fur. She often combines the process of embossing with the meticulous process of etching, and the result is the expressive visual qualities of two great mediums coming together as one.
Judith Hall's handcarved embossings, though impressed deeply into the handmade rag paper, do not photograph well, as evidenced by the above copies of the Rainbow Trout. Because of that, the images in this site represent only the etching portion of the original print. Please note that these embossings not only enhance the finished print but also add a few inches to the image size of the piece.
