Pastels for me are more direct and immediate than printmaking, where tedious hours of planning & manipulating the plates must be spent in my studio prior to viewing the final etching. I love colour. When I am working with pastels, I can take advantage of the complex & intensive colours and textures that are available through that medium. These pieces are created in many layers. Something of each layer is allowed to show through to increase the sense of multiple dimensions.
